I have never let the power of my 650 Kawasaki keep me from enjoying the ride. Heck, when I had a thousand CCs of power that really let me enjoy the ride. The experience I have on my scooter is just different from my bike. I feel like the scooter is a go kart on two wheels in comparison to my bike. No shifting, no foot braking, just twist and go.
That said I agree the economy is such that it's a time when people can use inexpensive transport. Certainly it's nice to burn pennies of gas to fetch groceries on the scooter and it makes for a cheap commuter. Hopefully shrewd manufacturers will enlighten the public and insert themselves into more garages.
